The Proposal

The Date:
May 29, 2009

The Setting:

Madison Square Park, NYC

The Story:
On a warm, sunny May afternoon, unbeknown to Sarah, Mike left work early to pick up an engagement ring he had made for her. The ring is comprised of elements both contemporary and classic. The center stone was his grandmother's engagement diamond, the stone given to her in 1942 before Michael's grandfather shipped out to serve in WWII. When asked why he chose that stone, Mike's grandfather replied, "It twinkled up at me." Today, the European style diamond twinkles anew in a hand-crafted platinum band, set boldly and elegantly between two sparkling new stones.

The ring burned a hole in Mike's pocket as he endured perhaps the longest New York subway ride in the history of New York and subways to meet Sarah in mid-town and enjoy the marvelous afternoon.

When Mike met up with Sarah, she had been working and running errands for hours. To brighten her spirits, Mike recommended a trip to NYC's beloved Shake Shack for a cold treat...or so she thought.

After frozen treats were purchased and subsequently consumed upon a park bench, Mike led Sarah to a nearby fountain. There, he reminded her of their upcoming move (Mike was moving into Sarah's pad) and handed her a typed "To Do List" to aid in their moving preparations. Mike often types To Do Lists, so Sarah suspected nothing out of the ordinary.

Sarah began to read, even beginning to contest tasks on the itinerary, when she discovered the list's most important action item: get engaged.

Mike slid the ring on Sarah's finger. Sarah accepted the proposal. They were now engaged and there was much rejoicing.
